LAWN
BOWLS
This is another great sport played
competitively throughout South Africa. Bowling clubs with
their own greens and clubhouse facilities can be found throughout
cities and small towns alike. Many resorts and hotels also
provide greens for use by the guests.
In 1976, bowls took
South Africa by storm when Springbok bowlers completed a clean
sweep of gold medals at the World Bowls tournament at Zoo
Lake Johannesburg.
Due to our favourable climate, bowls
can be played all year round with little interruption from
the elements. A Bowls tour can be organised in any region
of South Africa, and there are numerous tournaments that welcome
visiting bowlers.

The Nest in the Drakensberg
The Nest resort situated in Champagne Valley in the
Drakensberg is considered to be the unofficial headquarters
of Bowls South Africa. The resort boasts three championship
greens and a stunning new clubhouse. Coaching clinics
are regularly held by the resident pro and the Springbok
bowlers also make use of the resort for their training
camps. The resort has a fairly full bowls calendar and
is a "must visit" for touring bowlers. Its
kitchen has received the "Chefs Hat" from
Portfolio magazine for four years running. The Drakensberg
was proclaimed a world heritage site in 2000 and is
considered to be South Africa's premier mountain wilderness.

East Cape Wildlife Bowls Tour
The East Cape is a vast terrain of starkly contrastive
topography that was inhabited initially by the San Busman
who were later driven out by the Nguni tribes from Central
Africa and the European settlers who clashed with the
Nguni over land during the course of nine frontier wars.
This is the area were the 1820 British settlers, numbering
originally only around 4000, put down their roots.
Today the East Cape is a much frequented holiday destination
boasting beautiful beaches, wide open spaces, malaria
free game parks and hospitable farming communities who
love sport.
This particular tour makes for an unforgettable bowls
touring experience taking in the best the East Cape
has to offer. Enjoy bowls matches in modern cities and
rural hamlets alike competing against 5th generation
settler farmers, the local doctor and the retired police
captain. These folk know how to make you feel welcome.
This tour includes a number of game viewing options
with stays at the Kariega and Mpofu game reserves and
the Mountain Zebra Park. Also includes a game drive
through the Addo Elephant Park outside Port Elizabeth.
