2008 Argentina Hockey festival

Dates:

The tournament is  an annual event played over 4 days, from Thursday 04 through to Sunday 06 April in 2008.

Venue:

It is played at two of the top clubs in the wonderful city of Buenos Aires. These clubs, Geba and Cuidad,  are within close proximity of one another and within a 15 minute drive from the Capital Federal (City Centre) where teams will be accommodated.

Entries:

The tournament attracts schools, clubs and associations from all over the world. In 2007 countries represented where South Africa, Uruguay, Argentina and the USA. In 2008 we are expecting entries from these four countries as well as from the UK, Australia and New Zealand.

Tour:

Our suggestion is that schools incorporate the hockey festival within a 10 night tour of Argentina. This would include pre tournament matches with local schools in Buenos Aires, participation in the festival, and a post tournament match in Rosario. Accommodation will be in Buenos Aires with 2 or 3 nights spent in Rosario.

Advantages of playing in the hockey festival.

• All matches are played on top synthetic surfaces.
• The clubs boast fantastic club houses and change room facilities.
• Stadiums are within close proximity of the capital federal (city centre) making movement backwards and forward easy. A coach will transport the group. In the traffic it’s about a 15 min drive from hotel to ground.
• There are a number of wonderful cultural and social evenings around the hockey festival that allow for interaction between the players. These are:
  •  An opening function with tango show
  • Disco night
  • Cultural presentation. Each school is required to put on a short skit depicting their culture.
  • Traditional barbecue
  • Coaching clinic
  • Opening and closing functions.
• Standard of hockey is very good.
• Different divisions allow the weaker sides to play in a B division.
• Pupils get to represent their country by competing against other sides from all over the world.
• A coaching clinic will be run by ex international players.
• Luciana Aymars (voted best ladies player in the world 3 years running) will be on hand to present prizes at the final presentation.
